Kunstprojekt PHARMART by DRAWDr. med.
Dr. Dorian Recker
Geboren 7. Februar 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

1976-1978 Stadt-Anzeiger Krefeld (Satz/Gestaltung/Fotografie)
Was die einzelnen Medikamente
🇬🇧 PHARMART – An Art Project by DRAW
Dr. med. Dorian Recker und Dipl.-Designer Andreas Willems
It all began in 2019 with the first studio photographs of the urban canyons Dorian had constructed from blister packs.
It soon became clear that the images needed further digital processing. We wanted to produce them in
large formats to give the miniature scenes greater visual impact.
We experimented with different materials, including white aluminium Dibond, brushed silver aluminium Dibond and
acrylic glass, which we now select according to the individual artwork.
Dr. Dorian Recker
Born on 7 February 1958 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
After completing secondary school, he began studying medicine in Lyon, France, and subsequently
continued his studies in Mainz, Germany.
He completed his medical degree and received his licence to practise medicine in 1985, followed by s
pecialist training in Internal Medicine (1993) and Cardiology (1995).
From 1996 to 2023, he worked in his own cardiology practice in Krefeld, Germany.
My artistic inspiration came from my father, Peter Recker, who worked as a freelance artist
and sculptor in the USA, Italy and Germany.
My daily work with patients and my constant involvement with tablets, prescriptions and
therapies provided the initial inspiration for the PharmArt art project.
For me, the fundamental motivation behind art is its message.
Our message is one of appreciation – for one another and for the things humanity has created over the centuries.
Pharmaceuticals are one such valuable achievement.
Shortages of medicines, environmental pollution caused by pharmaceutical production, the reduction of
pharmaceutical waste, the responsible use of medicines, and a future focus on sustainability and recycling are issues
we want to raise awareness of through our work – among everyone involved: the public, doctors, pharmacists,
professional organisations, pharmaceutical companies and health insurers.
Our aim is not to assign blame, but to encourage dialogue and to work together towards solutions for the future.
Dipl.-Designer Andreas Willems
Born on 3 October 1953 in Krefeld, Germany.
In 1970, I began my professional training in photography with Ekkehard Kuschner.
From 1972 to 1976, I studied at the Werkkunstschule Krefeld, initially specialising
in photography under Professor Orlopp.
After completing the foundation courses, I switched to Graphic Design and Visual Communication,
studying under Professors Barl and Slansky and graduating with a degree in design.
From 1976 to 1978, I worked for the Stadt-Anzeiger Krefeld in
typesetting, design and photography.
Since 1979, I have worked as an independent graphic designer and photographer in Krefeld.
My work has included several exhibitions, among them projects on Krefeld's historic Stadtbad
and contributions to the Perspektivwechsel initiative organised by Krefeld City Marketing.
The idea behind our project fascinated me from the very beginning.
Until Dorian first drew my attention to the issue of pharmaceutical waste, it was something I had never
really thought about. I suspect many people feel the same way: they go to the pharmacy, hand in their
prescription and pay a relatively small co-payment. Patients covered by statutory
health insurance are usually unaware of the actual cost of the medicines they receive.
Through our art, we therefore want to draw attention to this issue.
We invite you to explore our Image Gallery and would be delighted to answer
any questions you may have, either by phone or via our Contact page.
We would love to share our work with a wider audience and welcome
any suggestions or offers of suitable exhibition spaces.
